You need
- A basket or open box
- 5 or 6 big, safe things: a wooden spoon, a flannel, a plastic cup, a soft toy
The steps
-
A grown-up chooses five or six things, each bigger than a fist, and puts them in the basket.
Grown-up job -
Sit on the floor together and let your child pull things out.
-
Name each thing and say how it feels: soft, bumpy, smooth, cool.
-
When they have had enough, put everything back together.
Keep an eye on
Check each thing first: bigger than your fist, clean, and with nothing that can snap or come off.
To keep it going
Swap two things for new ones next time, so the basket stays interesting.
