What Is Missing? A tray memory game for age 4 and up
Lay out a few things, cover them and take one away. Can your child work out which one has gone?
- From age 4
- 10 min
- Indoors
- Thinking
- 5 min prep
You need
- A tray
- A tea towel
- 6 everyday things: a cup, a wooden spoon, a sock, a soft toy, a book, a shoe
The steps
-
Lay the six things on the tray and name them together.
-
Count slowly to ten while your child looks, then cover the tray with the tea towel.
-
They turn round. Take one thing away and hide it behind your back.
-
Lift the tea towel. Which one is missing? Then swap: they hide, you guess.
Keep an eye on
The tea towel covers the tray and nothing else. Leave out anything sharp, breakable or small.
To keep it going
For older children, use ten things or take two away at once.
